Most people wouldn’t expect a strong electronic sounding pop/rock album to come out of Arkansas, but Boom Kinetic has done just that. The band formed in Fayetteville in 2006, and is comprised of Wiley Seeger, Zach Gump, Aaron, Schauer, Greg Guillot, and Miguel Gamboa. Together they have put together 49 minutes of pop/rock-goodness on their debut album, Part Gray/Part Bright Light.

My Review of iTunes Top 3 Based on the Album Cover

Ok, since we're kind of a music blog that might be about our band or whatever comes to mind...I'm just not sure...I thought it would be nice to have some album reviews. You might think, "But shouldn't you leave that to the critics?" And I would say, "Oh...by far I should, but I'm bored." Did Einstein let the critics develop the theories of general and special relativity? Bad analogy, but I'm due my Nobel Prize anyway.

Besides, I'm not going to really review music...because it's boring to listen to it...especially when you don't care about it, I'm going to make quick judgements about an album based on the cover.

I'll just take the Top 3 on the iTunes chart right now as I'm typing this. My opinions are not endorsed by the organization this blog is associated with nor do they even have one clue when I write these things.

1. Scotty McCreery "Clear as Day"

His face never really came together.

First of all, and this won't be the last time you hear me say this, I've never even heard of Scotty, but I'm impressed he managed to get those two C's back to back in his last name. As a person with two of the same letters back to back in my name, I always give props to my brothers in extraneous letterage.
How bad could the music be? He obviously lives in a treehouse.And those who live in treehouses know one thing. Wood...wood and music. And music is made from things that are made out of wood like guitars and drums. It's possible he constructed the guitar on the album (I'm assuming there is one) or the bassoon from trees right there in his forest.

Rating: It's clear as day to me this album has great woodland potential.

2. Jack's Mannequin "People and Things" (Deluxe Version)

Clorox can get your whites whiter.

Hey, little guy walking on top of the transparent colored, overlapping circles, the circle store called and they want their...um...circles back. And they want their tiny little suit.

The only thing I know about mannequins is that movie I saw once when I was a kid.

And I liked it.

Rating: Stuff and people and things and stuff, you can find your circumference by doing something with the radius and Pi. I forgot.

3. Adele "21"

I don't have anything snarky to say

I won't lie, I've actually listened to a song or two off this album and actually think she's one of the best singers I've ever heard. Her voice is amazing. Second of all, have a little eyelashes with your album cover. And we've had this little thing since the Wizard of Oz called color we can use in our pictures. Don't be so glum. I don't really think you're contemplating what a badass singer you are as much as you're feeling one of those pesky bumps on your scalp. It's ok, though. You're a winner.

Rating: You should really listen to it.

We're very happy to announce our song, "Ordinary People", is featured on a benefit CD to help people affected by Hurrican Irene. The album is on iTunes and has lots of great music on it, so you should check it out.

for the Hampton Roads area and hurricane Irene cleanup, featuring MTV featured hit
songwriters and other Internationally touring artist.

August 28, 2011 (Williamsburg, VA) – Brain Fuse Records announces the release of “Hampton
Roads – A Benefit CD” to benefit people in need in the Hampton Roads area and people affected by
Hurricane Irene. Brain Fuse Records will be the record label operating under the Step 3
Entertainment LLC name and catering to alternative, power-pop and pop-punk music scene.
Step 3 Entertainment is a company based out of Williamsburg, VA that operates Step 3 Publicity, Step
3 Entertainment Record Label, Brain Fuse Records and “Studio 3” Digital Recording Studio. Step 3
Entertainment (S3E) was put on the publicity map when it’s owner, George Walsh, decided to do a
string of benefit concerts and CD releases to donate time and money to help people in need. In 2010
S3E released the Indigo CD which was sold to raise money for teen suicide during a time when there
was a multitude of teen suicides due to bullying issues. S3E also has started the open ended tour
entitled Recovery Rocks, which changed its name to Angels Across America Tour to help non-profit
medical centers and alcohol/drug treatment facilities in the US. These concerts have featured label
founder, George Walsh, and other musicians including hit songwriter Robbin Thompson from the
Robbin Thompson Band, known for his hit radio songs, Sweet Virginia Breeze and Candy Apple Red.
Brain Fuse Records will share the responsibility of Step 3 Entertainment’s non-profit contributions.
Every year the company will put out a benefit CD to help a non-profit organization and this year’s
benefit release will be Brain Fuse’s inaugural release with “Hampton Roads – A Benefit CD”.
The benefit CD for The Hampton Roads is a world wide effort in which the record label obtained song
licensing from artists in multiple countries who were willing to help the region with cleanup after
Hurricane Irene and other needs of our community. Some of the CD’s notable artists will be #1 ITunes
hit songwriter and MTV Featured, Ryan Calhoun, Brain Fuse Records founder George Walsh, Eatliz
from Isreal, Dreamwalk from Slovenia, Nena and the Superyeahs from Italy and Kotadama from
Australia.
Walsh will not be the only local Hampton Roads musician on this CD as he is joined by The Smiths
Go to Washington and the Bobby BlackHat Walters.
This CD is a mixed genre of socially responsible music ranging from pop to rock and will be for sale in
digital format available on ITunes and Amazon MP3 music website.

Step 3 Entertainment owner and Director of Business and Talent Development, George Walsh, said
there may be a limited edition physical CD made of the Hampton Roads benefit CD and may be sold
on the company website for people who want a copy to collect or at a benefit concert that is in the
plans.
The non-profit organization that is the main beneficiary of the funds is the Grove Christian Outreach
Center in Williamsburg, VA. Step 3 Entertainment will also be asking other non-profits that will be
helping in other areas in VA if they are in need of funding and may be splitting the money up as
needed as people’s needs are brought forward. 100% of all profits from this CD will be donated.
The Grove Christian Outreach Center is helping with relief directly and indirectly related to hurricane
Irene as well as other basic community support for people in the region.

It's all Fun when the Drumline Joins In

It's not every show that we can say that we had a 20+ piece band, but a special moment at the University of Central Oklahoma gave us that chance. During a pep rally we were playing, we noticed the school's band standing nearby and invited their drumline to come join us on stage for the song, "Cursive". It's pretty sweet so check out the video.

Nice Little Weekend Recap

So we had a nice little weekend.
On Thursday, we played to a great crowd at Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR. Thanks to them for having us and we hope we can come back at some point.

Friday, we had a great time rocking the Rock at The Rev Room.

Saturday, we opened up for a few acts at Festival on the Border. Andy Grammer, The Fray, and Girl Talk all followed us on the stage at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith campus.
We enjoyed meeting folks after the set and even signing some shoes, cd's, wrist bands, and, I think, a flip-flop. You know you've made it when you're signing footwear.

My Interview with Cleverbot: A Glance into the Future.

If you’ve watched any science fiction movie, then you’re familiar with the concept of Artificial Intelligence. Basically, this is where some robot or computer tries to act and even think like a human being. Researchers around the world are hard at work trying to improve this technology and improve the technology that makes this technology improve and so forth. Without doing much research, I came across one such product that let’s you actually talk with a computer. You say something and the computer answers back…and it’s learning. What you’re about to read is my actual interview with the AI, Cleverbot (you can even do it here). I think you’ll find, we’re not in any danger of SkyNet anytime soon (Bennett from Commando posses more risk then our current AI tech).

Me: What is a cat.

Cleverbot: The cat is a lie.

Me: So the cat isn't truthful?

Cleverbot: Precisely.

Me: What do you like about music?

Cleverbot: It wonderful.

Rebuttal: Why Pumped Up Kicks Doesn’t Sound Like Gorillaz

The world is full of things that sound like things. Birds sound similar to crickets sometimes…a car can sound like a motorcycle. And, yes, sometimes, songs happen to use a certain instrumentation or follow a particular form that might give them some resemblance to a million other songs out there.

Sometimes, an extremely annoying song performed by a nobody is ripped off and performed by a superstar producing an even more annoying song and video. Let’s just lay taste aside and examine this song:

That’s Katy Perry’s smash hit, "Last Friday Night", and by my ten seconds of watching the video, I’m assuming Katy Perry is in the middle of what looks like some sort of serious dental work. I’m sure stuff happens and, then, even things…but I’ll just have to go ahead and not find out. My guess is something happens that has to do with Friday. Now, I call it a smash hit because I’ve heard the song no less than 80,000 times…and I don’t even listen to music or like it.

Nevertheless, there is one other thing I’ve listened to that has me suspicious.
How soon we forget:

If it’s slipped your mind, that’s the hit internet sensation Rebecca Black and her song, “Friday”. Or Rebecca and her uplifting, Christmas Spirited, economical pop tune, “Black Friday”. Either way, you see the similarities.

One song and video is extremely annoying…and so is the other. They both have something to do with Friday. And they both say the word Friday no less than 100 times during the song.

In this day and age of Friday loving teens and pop divas, you think they’d be a little more cautious of delving so deep into the social phenomenon known as the day of the week called Friday. At least for fear that the day might be a little played out.

Why Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People Sounds Exactly Like The Gorillaz in the Mind of Wiley

Being a music band often the discussion of music comes up. Most of the time we agree on our opinions and even share extremely similar taste, but sometime we disagree to the point of yelling at each other. This discussion came up while loading out our 18 tons of equipment after a show and ended with Wiley shouting out at me, “You don’t have to take it so personal!”

So I’ve decided to do a little interview to find the root of this idea.

Me: Wiley, how many Gorillaz albums have you listened to?
Wiley: None

Me: And what is it that you don’t like about the song “Pumped up Kicks”?
Wiley: It sounds just like Clint Eastwood from Gorillaz.

Me: So it sounds like a song you’ve barely heard and can’t even sing to me right now? Sing a little bit of Clint Eastwood.
Wiley: “All the other kids with the pumped up kicks…you gotta run run run…outrun my gun and something...”

Me: That’s Pumped Up Kicks isn’t it?
Wiley: All I know is I saw those fucking cartoon monkeys singing and driving their buggies around.

Me: Is that in the video for Pumped Up Kicks?
Wiley: I don’t even know!

Me: So, wait, are you talking about Gorrilaz and their entire discography or the one song Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People?
Wiley: I can’t stand these fucking monkeys. When I hear vocals that have that megaphone effect I just think of those fucking monkeys.

Me: So Pumped Up Kicks also sounds just like a police standoff?
Wiley: Listen, being the singer of a band, I’m all in favor of making you sound like somebody that you aren’t. And maybe it’s just deep jealousy. But if I want to sound like those douche bag dude cheerleaders on game day at the stadium, then I’ll go to megaphone store and buy a megaphone.

Me: The Megaphone Store?
Wiley: On College and Township. By the new Kum and Go and the Reptile Museum.

Me: Fair enough.
Wiley: Have you been in the place?

Me: Have you?
Wiley: No. It reminds me of Gorillaz.

Me: Seriously?
Wiley: I think of a snake and those fucking monkeys and I have no idea why they would be at the same place and it just makes me so angry.

Me: I don’t know where to go with this.
Wiley: You don’t have to know. Because you don’t want to know…and I don’t know.

The Greatest 80's Action Movie

The 80’s Greatest Action Movie

Let’s get it started. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and a young Alyssa Milano. It was released in 1985 to what I’m sure was critical acclaim.

It’s called Commando.

And it’s hands down the best action movie you’ll ever watch…maybe…mostly.

Stay with me as I recount the film from memory having last seen it 5 years ago.

A group of bad guys is going around killing good guys that used to be part of Arnold’s military team…but in this film we call Arnold--Matrix. John Matrix. The original Matrix.

Anyway, cut to Matrix, clearly retired, doing some logging out in the woods.

And then feeding some woodland critters with his daughter.

Then he’s interrupted by his old boss showing up in a helicopter and telling him that he’s in danger from the bad guys. The bad guys show up and mostly get killed, but some live and Alyssa Milano gets kidnapped. Matrix, after momentarily being detained by having to kill somebody, goes after the kidnapping bad guys by pushing his disabled car down a cliff. It doesn’t work out and he gets kidnapped too and the bad guys want him to do something for them to get his daughter back, but instead he just kills some more people and jumps out of a plane or something.

For some reason, Rae Dawn Chong gets involved and they wind up chasing this bad guy Sully they see at a mall whom Matrix eventually let’s fall off a cliff.

Now, this is important cinematic history because the bad guy Sully is the origin of two classic Arnold one-liners. Earlier in the film, for some reason, during a conversation, he tells Sully that he’ll kill him last.

Right before Matrix let’s Sully fall from the cliff he asks, “Sully, remember when I told you I’d kill you last?” Sully frantically says, “Yeah, that’s right! You did!” and Matrix drops the bombshell saying, “I LIED!” Immediately Matrix walks back over to wherever Rae Dawn Chong had been (she’s completely oblivious) and she asks (having never known anything about this Sully guy), “What happened to Sully?” Matrix replies: “I LET HIM GO.”

Kind of gets hazy here (I think some more people get killed), but Chong doesn’t go away and Matrix winds up flying a plan to the bad guys island hangout and killing many, many dudes. About 50 according to this youtube video:

Matrix rescues young Alyssa Milano and has to fight his nemesis in the movie. This guy:

Also known as Bennett.

Because Bennett looks like your uncle, Matrix naturally defeats him and throws a steam pipe through him and says, “Let of some steam, Bennett!” (Classic).

Some other army guys show up and Chong, Matrix, and Milano all fly off and live happily ever after.

Friday night, Barrett Baber will open up the show for us and Saturday night DJ Destrado will be there, so come on out.

The Most Expensive Song in the World

I’m sure you’ve heard about the most expensive things in the world. Items like houses or yachts or diamonds or space rockets and such regularly make news headlines. So I decided to make the most expensive song in the world…at least according to my research, which is none. The thing about songs is they aren’t in high demand or exceedingly rare. They don’t cost a lot to make…you basically just think of them in your head and then find some way to make noises (go ahead, you can make your own right now). So, I had a pretty daunting task when I decided to make the Boom Kinetic song, “Love and Reason”, $575.

Go ahead and check it out. That’s how much it costs.

You may ask how I arrived at such a price. Well, basically, I went to edit the pricing info on the website, CDBaby, and found that I could enter any price I wanted. I figured one billion dollars was a bit steep, plus I don’t think it would let me enter that many zeros. And that also might be prohibitively expensive considering most of us don’t have one billion dollars. I figured something like ten or twenty dollars might come off as a bit cheap for the most expensive song in the world. I decided $575 was a good price. More than you might spend on a new iPhone (with a contract renewal), and less than you might spend on a MacBook Air or iPad 2.

Why I’m the Best Half and Half Flipper on the Planet.

The morning after a rock n’ roll show at the Brickhouse in Jonesboro (one of Arkansas’ most awesome venues), the guys and I headed over to a nearby restaurant. While waiting for our order, I made one of the most important discoveries in my life.

I’m the best half and half flipper on the planet. Holding what I’m calling the world’s record for simultaneously flipping 3 half and half’s a full 180 degrees. Unless you have 5 minutes to spare…I assure you this is no small feat.

After about 17 seconds of research on YouTube, I found no other person attempting this. And since nothing showed up on the first page for “half and half flipping” (mostly stuff about skateboards) that came close to my trick, I’m pretty sure I’m the best.

I’ll forgo searching google because there are far too many words on that thing…literally hundreds.

So you’re welcome. Maybe next I’ll shoot for 4.

Jesse Katsopolis was his full name and he was played by actor John Stamos as if you didn't remember.
Basically, Uncle Jesse was the "bad boy" uncle who, I think, had a studio in the basement or lived there until his wife moved in and dolled out advice to his collection of nieces.

Think you remember all the 80's children's shows? Here's a few that might ring a bell.

When I wrote about those 80's movies I just remembered, a flood of television shows I loved as a child popped into my head. Again, I'm kind of hazy on the details, but I will provide you with some wiki links to help jog your memory.

TODAY'S SPECIAL

I remember loving this show as a kid. But from what I can remember, it had something to do with a manequin that came to life in some store and then we all learned something. And there was a magical phrase that brought him to life: "Hocus Pocus Alimigocus". Or something like that. Keep in mind this was pre Harry Potter.

As a general rule, all 80's children programing involved puppets, so that brings me to my second one:

PINWHEEL

I can't get the theme song out of my head, but that's about it. Think of it as a poor man's Seasame Street. I distinctly remember puppet vegetables that lived in the refridgerator. It was magical.

Google Bing or Google-Bing: Bringing the Internet Closer Together 2 Searches at a Time

For years now you’ve probably been using a little-known technology some call a search engine (you may know it as “googling”). Basically, this is how you find things out about stuff. Prior to when I got the interent in the year 2000, this was how you found things out: This is how a search engine works: there’s about 7 billion people out there in the world and about each of those people started three or four websites. Now these websites contain information mostly in the form of pictures and words and sometimes sounds and moving pictures called YouTubes. This information can be anything from chicken recipes to car repair tips to porn….mostly porn. Prior to search engines or “googling” one would have to go from website to website hoping they would happen upon the right bit of information they need, but mostly happening upon porn. Then along came search engines. You basically type in the kind of information you need, the engine searches through all 100 billion websites and gives you the best match for what you might be looking for…which is probably porn. The glaring problem is, there’s more than one search engine. You can google on bing.com, ask.com, AltaVista.com, yahoo, or hotbot, and probably even google. So the age old question emerged: which is the best search engine? I’ve done years of field research and basically narrowed it down to two primary search engines. You can find these at google.com and bing.com. The problem is, how do you know which one of those will yield you the best results. The answer is: you don’t. So after decades of practice, I’ve developed one of the best methods for finding what you need on the internet. Google-Bing. Go to bing, search google, or go to google and search bing and you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for which is either google or bing. Follow my step by step instructional video:

Why not just go straight to google? Why don’t we just ask a bunch of stupid questions? Because we don’t know what we want or need. And that’s why they invented search engines. So, why not use those search engines to find the right search engine to meet your needs which is either google or bing. The paradox is, you don’t know with which site to start, so why not pick one then use it to find the other thus eliminating all the questions that come with whether you made the right choice. Chances are, if we google-bing, enough, they’ll eventually merge and give us the final, all knowing search engine. Or maybe we need to bing-google.

Ok, you've probably figured out by now that my posts about the best iPhone apps featured all Justin Bieber apps of which there are waaayyyy too many available. And you also realized it was probably just a little tongue in cheek. Just a little.

But that doesn't mean that some poor soul stumbled upon the post by accident. And unfortunately, we know exactly what that person entered into google.

If you're having a problem reading that top search (the top search that leads to this blog), it says "I've taken like three hundred justin bieber quizzes and they..."
OMG! They what?! Why, oh, why did you stop their anonymous searcher? You have to tell me.
You have to tell me what your were thinking by using the word "like" in your search terms.
What were you so desperate to find out?
Where the, like, 300 quizzes you took just not up to your standards?
Did you flunk them all?

Out of curiosity, I decided to use those exact terms to see what came up:

There was something about vampires, a Justin Bieber Love Story, then this blog.
I can taste the fame. Every time somebody searches "I've searched for Justin Bieber, umm, like, a million times and I can't find him anywhere...txt me! lol!" that's a hit. I can see the theoretical web dollars piling up.

(P.S. if you click on "Are you obsessed with Star Wars?", you can take a pretty, like, quiz about Star Wars.)

My favorite search, by the way, was the Sarah Jessica Parker spaceship movie one...which is "Flight of the Navigator" of course. At least the blog was helpful to one person.

The Top 4 Movies of the 80’s: That I Just Remembered Even Existed

Remember that movie that you loved as a kid and probably watched 20 times to the horror of your parents that you totally forgot about until just now? And remember how Disney probably had something to do with it and there’s a good chance that it was a straight to video movie? Well, I know what that’s like and now I’m going to share some of those movies without doing much research aside from using my foggy memory and imdb.com.

(spoiler alert)(I probably can‘t remember how they end except everything works out)

ONE
Flight of the Navigator 1986

Starring: A kid. I think Pee-Wee Herman was the voice of a spaceship. And, this may have been Sarah Jessica Parker's first movie.

Tagline: Paul Reubens gets work outside of the Pee-Wee franchise.

Plot: It’s kind of hazy, but for some reason this kid winds up at NASA and I think this really shinny, silver space ship is calling out to him in his head or something. From what I can remember, he tricks Sarah Jessica Parker or somebody and manages to get in this spaceship and start driving it around with the help of a creepy, metal eye that sounds like Pee-Wee Herman, because it is him. I don’t really remember what he does, but I think he goes backwards or forwards in time or into an alternate universe and winds up having to find his way back through some lightning storm. There were fireworks involved and they were in Florida.

Mac and Me 1988

Starring: A kid. And I have no idea.

Tagline: Remember how much everybody loved ET?

Plot: Umm, there’s an alien. He’s a nice alien and this kid befriends him and they have some sort of wacky adventure that I’m sure involved hiding the alien from the government and in the end the alien goes back to space.

THREE
Not Quite Human 1987
(pretty sure this was a TV movie)

Starring: A boy teen. A girl teen. Some other teens. And Alan Thicke.

Tagline: He looks like a teen, but he’s a robot.

Plot: Alan Thicke builds an android teen boy and he has problems fitting in at school as most robots do. It’s a modern day Pinocchio type of story and everything eventually works out. I think at one point his battery ran down at an inopportune time.

FOUR
The Boy Who Could Fly 1986

Starring: The same boy teen from the Not Quite Human Movie. Other teens and probably some adults.

Tagline: Turns out the boy can fly.

Plot: I think the kid can’t talk and then eventually somebody learns he can fly around.

Many of our 1’s of readers (that being me) were so thrilled with the Top 7 Picks for Best iPhone Music Apps that I decided to do a little more research. This time, I chose to focus upon apps you might have to pay a buck for. Come on! It’s only $.99. I literally sifted through 10’s of apps to find the perfect ones to take your iPhone experience to the next musical level. Again, this comes with the disclaimer that I in no way claim to have actually used any app I talk about, so you’ll just have to take my word that I’ve gleaned enough information from the preview to give a good review.

I guess because nobody has rated the app yet, but I’m going to go ahead and give it a five out of five stars and hope others agree. Have you ever been listening to the Bieb and thought, “What the flick did he just say?” With this app you’ll have the answer right at your fingertips. I can’t wait to memorize all the lyrics. Oh, wait, but then I wouldn’t need the app.

Is this a Justin Bieber app? Justin Bieber? Who is that? Is it ok that our company is named 3ight? How do you pronounce that? Threeight? Thrate? Well, from what I can tell, you’ve got almost full bars, you’re connected to wifi, it’s 4:28 in the morning, you’ve got 95% battery and your ass is about to get taken to Justin Bieber school! Don’t forget to do your Justin Bieberomework, ‘cause there’s a quiz….and the first question is: Justin Bieber?

Even the icon is creepy. Look at it. It’s like camo Bieber face with his head poking out just about perfectly curved water. This gives me an app idea: Where isn’t Justin? Submit your photos of what isn’t Justin and compete to see who knows soonest when something that isn’t Justin moves! Go!

“Try out Justin Pocket Today!!” I’m gonna pass on the Justin Pocket!! What I learned from this app is that Justin’s favorite romantic movie is “A Walk to Remember” Justin’s favorite comedy: “Gone Fishin’”

Justin Bieber TrackQ by WeNewspaper Corporation
This is one of the more expensive ones coming in at nearly two dollars. That’s more than I can fit in my Justin Pocket. Apparently, you can “join other fans of Justin Bieber in tracking his latest news and information…” “No real fan of Justin can be without this app!” So suck on that! This app lets you “social network” with other fans on Facebook. Sounds a lot like the free Facebook app that will also let you social network with those fans and read updates and post comments. But, who are we kidding, this is awesome!

Justin Bieber: True of False by Em Ja Interactive, LLC
It’s a collection of true/false questions to test your Bieberledge. Justin Bieber is the subject of the most apps in the iPhone app store: True or False.

Justin Bieber Fun Facts also by Em Ja Interactive, LLC
“Impress you classmates, friends, family, and co-workers with a large selection of Justin Bieber facts!” Impress your co-workers? Please submit videos of you “impressing” your co-workers with your Justin Bieber facts. The winner will receive an $10 iTunes gift certificate so you can buy all these apps. The Official Guide to the Complete Boom Kinetic on the Web

You may not know it, but there are thatches of websites out there that offer free services to musicians wanting to get their music to the masses who can't wait to listen.

You're familiar with some of the more popular ones...like Facebook, and Myspace; but tucked in every little nook and cranny, there's another one...and it seems one pops up each day.

Us musicians spend a lot of time making these websites and then either using them or forgetting them.
This is a guide to the ones we use and the ones other musicians might want to look into.

Obviously, there's Facebook

The thing about Facebook is there's really no better way to get instant feedback from your fans and to interact with them. Right now, there's little that beats it if everything is taken into account.

Obviously, there's Twitter

Twitter is the simpler Facebook. It's less interactive and less used, but it's a great way to blast out littel bits of information.

Obvisouly, there's the less used Myspace

It's ashame Myspace has fallen behind, because the site has put a lot of effort into making some pretty useful features for musicians. I don't think it's down and out yet.

And even the ole YouTube

You want to see video...then this is where you go. There's not much of an interactive quality. At least, most people don't use it for that, but it's the ultimate video hosting site.

Downloading free music aside, iTunes has their stuff together when it comes to downloading music.

Reverbnation is a musician's site. It offers a handful of features that make managing other sites really easy. It's a great site for musicians and fans alike.

I’ve scoured thousands upon thousands of the free apps available in the app store. And by scour (which I’m not even sure is a word), I mean, pushed “twenty five more…” at least several times. Maybe about 5 times and all my searching and hard work can be summed up into two proper nouns: Justin Bieber.

That’s right! My top 7 picks for best free iPhone apps just happen to be the seven free Justin Bieber apps I found in the top 100 music apps.

Forget about stupid apps like Pandora (zzzzzz) and Sound Hound (boooring). This is where the real apps come to play.

Without further yammering, here are my picks--in exactly the order I found them because I was too lazy to actually do more than take a picture of them. And, the most popular ones have to be the best, right?

This one gets four thumbs up too. Now this one claims to be “the BIGGEST and BEST collection of Justin Trivia and is now ABSOLUTELY FREE!” Just when I thought things couldn’t get any more free-y-er, this app comes out and promises the most absolute level of freeness imaginable. Word is you can get this app and sell it for a higher level of non-absolute free making bucket loads of free. And test your Bieberledge at the same time!

Pop Star news-Just Bieber News Free-Independent New by Joseph Nardone

This one gets three and a half thumbs (ouch) and wins the “most dashes or maybe hyphens in an app title” award.
This app claims to have “Hundreds of new Justin Bieber news items every day.”
They say they “constantly monitor the internet and send your app (a bunch of Bieber stuff)” including news stories about Justin Bieber from over 4500 sources!
Somebody somewhere is getting their Bieber on from places your didn’t even know existed.
I really was tempted to download the app to see what some of these sources were, but I had a hot pocket in the microwave, so I chose the responsible thing to do.
The app also says it will alert you to all new Justin Bieber products when they’re added to Amazon.com.

Hate Mail Part Two: A Real Man Never Gives Up

Ahhh, there's nothing like the warmth of the Spring sun after a harsh winter and, also, there's nothing like some hate mail to get your day started off right.
Sometime between my checking my email last night and me checking my email this morning, the nocturnal Mr. RecklessAbandon85 set about his vigilante, batmanesque quest to, well, do something. Maybe to try to get Boom Kinetic to give up. Or make us cry. I'm not sure.

Finally...a break! Reckless is going to set us up on a featured artist on 69.dudes FM. I'm not sure if that's a terrestrial station or an online station. But apparently, it's the only station for peppermint schnapps drinking frat boys who can't sing. And that's the kind of demographic information we need to really make things happen.

I did send an email to seriouslyyouguysarejustashittycoverband@giveupyousuck.cock , but it just bounced back. I guess that dashes all the hopes we have of appearing on 69.dudes.FM.

But all hope is not lost..... (I made this a nice rainbow color)

Now, Mr. Reckless, we know you didn't "just stumble onto" us. And the reason it sounds like us is because it is us silly ;P

We are pioneers in the field of covering other people's music and also playing our own. Or, wait, yes, pretty much every performing act from local bands to national touring acts play cover songs.

I just don't know how you find time in the day to compliment the bands you do like, when coming up with such witty remarks for us.

Oh, wait, you probably don't.

Nothing says "you're the best band in the world" than a great song. Actually, we're more of the mind set that being the best band in the world has more to do with your awesome video board. That's why we bought it. Throw in some lasers, fog, and a thatch of energy efficient led light panels and 360 spinning lights and, well, you can barely hear the music or even see our faces. Which is a good thing.

Myspace: The Only Place to Make a Real Connection

Sure, Facebook has it’s own movie and Twitter has a whale, courtesy: Paula Deen Riding Things

but Myspace is still alive and, if you ask me, better than ever. Never before has there been more bands, movies, comedians, projects, bussiness, porn stars, umm… dancers, bloggers, and people wanting attention sending more messages to other bands, movies, comedians, projects, businesses, etc. hoping to make some sort connection than ever before.

Just take a gander at our myspace inbox.

We’re a band and all these other bands want us to check out their whatever it is they want us to check out. And because we have so many band friends…we basically get these opportunities by the hundreds…every five seconds…so much so that if we sat down to read every single message it would take until the year 2075 to clear the inbox. Ah, the pains of being myspace popular.

Joe Hollywood uses myspace to it’s fullest. By asking his friends to stop using it and instead use something more trendy…like twitter. I tweeted Joe and asked, “Do you myspace? Then check out our Facebook page where you can find a link to our YouTube and see an instructional video about becoming our myspace friend.”

But that doesn’t mean Myspace doesn’t provide for making personal connections to our fans out there. Just check out this message from Keith Perry:

“I like to dance nud let me do that for u”

Kieth likes to dance nud or, nude without an e. And he wants to share that talent with us.
Thanks, Keith!

So, see, Myspace can still be a useful tool for reaching out to people you can make a real connection with. Next time you tweet out a tweet or Facebook out a Facebook thing, remember, you might not get an offer to have somebody dance nud for you. And that’s what’s truly important.

For every 1 hate mailer out there, there are 10's of love mailers.
Of course, it's much easier to post screen caps of the hate mailers out there simply because they're are just fewer of them.
But this isn't a beach party...we're hard at work here, so we took the time to find some of these love mailers out there and share their sentiments.

We also love to hear about individual songs. This poster digs our song "White Flag".

We might not be a Hollywood artist, but we try our darnedest to share our music the best way we know how.

Ok, so maybe all the comments can't be glowing. To answer the question, yes, really. We do apologize for it disgusting you, but our music has not been shown to have any clinically proven side effects.

We've been told that Evanescence did meet Peter Gabriel and that it sounded nothing like us. Of course, none of this has been clinically proven. Seriously, finding out who we sound like is a big challenge and every bit of info like this provides useful insight.

This is another one that let's us know which song is the best. Which is all of them.

This was a nice blast of posts. At once, it was confirmed from Japan that "yeah, that's music" and that we're on the right track...though it is a little wimpy.

Our music is insane! But you'll get used to it. :)

Hate Mail is Two Four Letter Words

When you’re wafting in the success of your own hard effort and gleaming from accolades and congratulations, it’s good sometimes to step back and have a little perspective.
Luckily, when you hoist yourself up by the cables of the world wide web, or whatever it’s called now, nature itself provides its very own perspective maker. Yes, a calm, still voice out of the wilderness just to let you know how badly you suck. This is called hate mail. And it seems to come in all shapes and forms from people willing to share their perspective on how badly you suck and doing do in the open forum of networking sites like Facebook, and YouTube. A band having taking on the responsibilities of living a public life would be remise in not sharing some of this hate mail with you.

Let’s take the latest criticism coming to us in the form of a “comment” left on one of our YouTube videos.

Mr. Puyambia writes “Boring!!! Don’t know how to use/distribute musical material. Evidently lack of music school. Very Poor.”

Excellent point!!! It’s one thing to send just a spiteful comment our way, but then to admit your own shortcomings in the process, well, that lends a commenter a little more credit. After making it clear that our video is, in fact, three times over excitingly boring (where were the caps?), Mr Puyambia admits “(I) don’t know how to use/distribute musical material.” We found our musical material at a discount fabric store and have made it readily available (distributed) throughout the whole of the internet. First step: find some material of your own. Second step: distribute the dickens out of it. It’s that easy, P, so I hope this helps.

Mr. Puymbia then goes own to say he “Evidently lack of music school.” And we can tell, as he also evidently lacks of grammar school too. The part that should tug at the heart strings of most is the statement about P’s financial status. He’s not just poor. He’s “very poor”. Yet even facing tough economic trial, Mr. P has the ambition to seek out YouTube videos and use his right to share his opinion. We salute you--a hero indeed.

I should also point out Mr. P left another gracious comment on our YouTube Profile. Enjoy:

Our second hate mail also come in the form of a comment on our YouTube video. With reckless abandon, Mr. RecklessAbandon85 charged into the internet do deliver a scathing, yet insightful criticism of our video.

“You guys are so absolutely terrible and you don’t realize it.” Well, we do now. And thanks for brining that to our attention. If only all those people weren’t showing up to our shows…then it would be easy to call it quits. Mr. Reckless then goes on to tell us how much our music sucks, etc. etc., but adds, “…it’s good marketing.” Wow. I’m blushing. To think you would congratulate us on good marketing…you know the things that makes stuff to where you can sell more stuff…it’s just an honor. My favorite is the last sentence, “obviously you guys didn’t major in music…or being men.” Question for Mr. R: when you got your bachelor of man degree at university, did they have a whole course selection dedicated to belittling others behind a mask of anonymity 101? It might have served you well to take There’s This Thing on Your Keyboard that Makes Letters Like Big and Stuff Called a Shift Key 101.

Mr. R also came back to leave this elegant rebuttal.

The only thing I’ll point out was the “haha” in the middle of the torrent of criticism. You may want to get some help. You’re in danger of becoming a film villain.

Some mailers aren’t concerned with making long, drawn out paragraphs with sweeping, allegorical narratives and instead rely on a much more direct way to get their point across. Meet (music notes) Savy (more music notes):

Who, after yelling, continued to yell some sort of complex mathematical equation the likes of which I never saw during music/man school. Apparently, 8 is double equal to D. D must be some sort of constant.
Anyway, I’ve looked it up on the internet and I can’t come up with a solution. Perhaps the solution is something called the “unsubscribe” constant or “unlike” constant. This is the opposite of the “subscribe” and “like” or “follow” constant which, at one point, (music noteS) SAVY (more music notes) must have been familiar with. All this math is Boring!!!

I like things in their simplest form and that where A. Acree comes in (the real name will be hidden to potect the identity of the user).

Just a simple “yall suck”. Nothing to figure out. Nothing aside from what happened to the apostrophe key on A’s keyboard. Simple, easy to understand--this is what I look for in good hate mail.

So, keep the hate mail coming and help us maintain perspective.

Part Gray/Part Bright Light will arrive just in time for our first CD release celebration at the Rev Room in Little Rock.

Lights, Lasers, Action: What's a few large to upgrade your light show?

There's no doubt it's all about presentation when it comes to putting on a show. Sure, you can plug in your instruments and play some awesome music, but there's more to life than just sounds. There is also lights.

That's why we decided to drop a few grand on upgrading our substantial lighting arsenal. You can check out some of the pics and a video below. You're looking at two badass (and very bright) lasers and 4 led 360 moving heads (the led saves power and therefore the environment).

We're going to be busting these bad boys out at our CD release parties.

Missing from the pictures is our 12 foot by 7 foot LED video board. You'll most certainly know it when you see it. But right now, we're pretty sure it's on a freighter somewhere in the Pacific, but it should be here shortly. We can't wait to see that thing in action.

Boom Kinetic Wraps Up Recording

We're done. Four long days tracking at Crisp Recording Studios in Fayetteville have left us with four excellent songs. Of course, that stuff only exists as a collection of 1's and 0's on a computer hard drive.

Now, producer Dave Wilson will take that computer data back to Nashville to begin mixing. We hope we'll have it all done in the next couple of months.

Well, it's Sunday and we're still in the studio. We've made it through most of our songs and it sounds super sweet.

Boom Kinetic Recording at Crisp Studios in Fayetteville, AR--First Day Detail Report

Ok, here's a little more detail on what we accomplished yesterday.

We put in a good 10 hours yesterday tracking bass and drums on eight songs.

Now, we're working on kind of a dual project...one, Boom Kinetic originals..the other, a second Zach Gump project.

Bass and drums are finished on all eight songs (4 B!K, 4 ZG) and we started on tracking keyboards on the B!K song "The Way". It sounded amazing and we haven't even laid guitar or vocals.

Today, we're planning on tracking guitar and maybe throwing down some vocals...we'll also finish a good chunk of the keyboard tracking. If all goes smoothly, we'll be well into vocals tomorrow.
